Student Assistance and Family Empowerment
Purpose
The Student Assistance and Family Empowerment Program, or SAFE, provides a comprehensive range of prevention and intervention services for students and their families at the elementary and secondary schools in the District. The focus is based on student needs in the areas of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and violence prevention. A variety of programs are used to support that goal.

To receive help from the SAFE Coordinator, (407-355-3251). If you can not contact these people, please speak with an administrator, dean, counselor, teacher, or secretary at your school.
Referrals to SAFE usually arrive by:
- Parents referring their children
- Other students referring their friends
- Students referring themselves
- Teachers and other school staff members referring a student
New Horizons Program
The New Horizon’s program is run by the Center for Drug Free Living and is focused at helping students who are demonstrating problems with drug/alcohol use, anger management, or difficulty in coping. The program is mainly facilitated by running weekly small group sessions during the school day. Students who are enrolled in one of the New Horizon’s groups can always request an individual or family meeting if there is something they would like to discuss or if a crisis arises. The groups and meetings with students are completely confidential with the exception of the required reporting of child abuse, threats against another student, threats of suicide, or drugs/alcohol/weapons on campus.
